Hand-selected students of the Colburn Conservatory of Music perform with young French ensemble, Ebène Quartet, recipients of the 2009 Gramophone Magazine’s Record of the Year. New York Times' Alan Kozinn hailed the ensemble as "A string quartet that can easily morph into a jazz band.”

About Colburn Chamber Music Society

Nowhere else in LA will one hear this magical combination of artists performing unique chamber repertoire in the intimate acoustics of Zipper Hall-- with guest artists ranging from fresh young trend-setters the Ebène Quartet (2009 Gramaphone’s Record of the Year) to living legend Menahem Pressler (back for his third year with the CCMS series); faculty artists like San Francisco Symphony Principal Percussionist Jack Van Geem and renowned pianist John Perry; and Colburn students who have garnered accolades and prizes from the Fischoff and Coleman chamber music competitions.

About Ebène Quartet

The Quatuor Ebène has studied extensively with the Ysaye Quartet in Paris as well as with the eminent Gábor Takács, Eberhard Feltz et György Kurtág. Since its dramatic 2004 triumph at the prestigious ARD international competition in Munich, where the quartet was also awarded five additional special prizes, the Ebènes have gone on to win the Forberg-Schneider Foundation’s Belmont Prize in 2005. It has since remained close to the foundation, which has very generously arranged to have the quartet outfitted with several unique Italian instruments, on loan to the quartet members from private owners. More information on the quartet on www.quatuorebene.com

Seating begins approximately 30 minutes prior to the concert. In consideration of our artists and patrons in the hall, late seating will take place at the discretion of management. Certain programs are performed without intermission; therefore, no late seating can be offered at those concerts.

As a courtesy to the musicians and your fellow patrons, please turn off all pagers, mobile phones, watch alarms, or other electronic devices prior to the concert, and refrain from making noise (talking, coughing,  unwrapping candy) during the performance.

Everyone in your party, regardless of age, must be able to sit quietly through a 2 hour concert without disturbing other patrons or the artists. Ushers will ask parents whose children are noisy or uncomfortable to take them outside of the hall. If there is repeated disruption, The Colburn School reserves the right to revoke admission and refund your ticket price.

All patrons must have a ticket to enter the hall.  Information about accessibility is available by calling 213-621-1050.
